I swear to heck I would have choked Culver had he been within arm's length after he stuck his nose in it today.

I guess if you've never had a job, you don't understand what unions are up against in Iowa!

have a chastening effect on local school boards and school administrators. Maybe it might be a start to getting rid of seeing schools as some sort of business grinding out identical products, witless and soulless from the effects of NCLB.

And fought the good fight for Chet. Taking issue with Chet for this knife in the back of workers across the state is my right, I've certainly earned it.

But hey, If you want to pretend Chet was never a lobbyist, go for it. (Honesty, and all that :eyes: )


on edit: I guess my original point was that Chet has lead a life 99+44/100ths of us could never dream of, and this complete betrayal shows me where his life/work experiences have led him to, in his beliefs.

The legislation, House File 2645, was introduced and passed by both the House and the Senate within the past week.

The governor said the process was rushed and that leaders in his own party failed to provide more public input as he requested.

Senate Democratic leaders on Monday temporarily delayed the bill from going to the governor’s desk. Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal filed a motion to reconsider the bill. That means lawmakers could bring it back up for more debate or merely give Culver more time before the bill reaches his desk and triggers his three-day deadline for taking action.

"The motion to reconsider was a step in the right direction," Culver said. "However, I want to be clear, there is a strong possibility that I will veto this bill if a real effort to listen to the concerns of Iowans, local elected officials and government stake holders at all levels does not take place."

I find this whole thing rather odd. My initial impressions: Either he's trying to placate the Repubs by appearing more centrist or somebody / some group is pressuring him on this. I keep reading he has "concerns" but what are these concerns?

Here are some talking points to use to slap down Republicans who spit anti-union propaganda at you...

1. This bill has nothing to do with changing Iowa's Right to Work status, so Republicans need to stop screaming about Fair Share.
2. The bill would only open up certain things for negotiations. People understand that if you negotiate for something, you will likely have to give up something in return. Many times in negotiations both sides know the resources available and they are simply negotiating how those will be allocated.
3. The proposed changes would give public employees the same rights in collective bargaining as private employees have.
