Now, guns. Remember last fall when the Board of Regents, on a split vote, allowed campus cops to carry guns, even though there was no evidence that this would be a good thing? Among other things, it was said — again and again — that this was needed solely for crises and threatening confrontations. Perhaps. Perhaps not.
A friend has sent Skinny a letter that Des Moines lawyer Gary Dickey sent to the Iowa State University Department of Public Safety last month, alleging the armed campus cops carried out “an unlawful search and seizure of Louis Body and Paint Inc., at 1901 Lincoln Way in Ames, on or about Dec. 13, 2007.” Among other things, Dickey asks for an investigation as “to whether ISU (police) acted consistent with the Board of Regents’ firearms policy when they entered Mike Louis Auto and Paint with the weapons drawn at their sides.” The warrant apparently was issued in regard to alleged financial irregularities — always a reason to unholster your guns — and Dickey wants to know why the campus cops were involved in the first place since the Iowa Code gives the campus police the same powers as regular peace officers only “when acting in the interests of the institutions by which they are employed.” …

What do you all think of that???
(Of course, the 'authors' couldn't let a week go by w/out sniping at the Governor (or in this case his lovely wife) but I'm not wasting space to repeat it.)
