McKinley Bailey's Re-Election
McKinley Bailey is running for Re-Election in the 9th District. This district is made up of Eagle Grove, Webster City and Stanhope, and the surrounding area. It used to be a heavy Republican district until Bailey won in 2006, in one of the biggest upsets of the cycle.

I would like to post some information from his site along with a couple links if anyone is interested in helping.....

An Iowa Native

McKinley was born on November 12th, 1980, the third of four sons belonging to Doug and Nancy Bailey. He was raised in Webster City where his father worked as a travel agent and insurance salesman and currently serves as a county supervisor. His mother has been a teacher at Webster City Middle School since 1995 and was a teaching assistant there before that.

Family

His oldest brother Derek works in construction at sights around the Midwest. The second of four, Kip, is a teacher in Eagle River, Alaska where he resides with his wife Jane and their three children Isabelle, Aiden and Tobias. His younger brother Tim is a gunsmith for Gander Mountain in Joliet, Illinois.

Education

McKinley attended High School for one year in Arequipa, Peru where he was a Rotary Foreign Exchange Student. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1999. In 2004 he received an A.A. from Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC and received a B.A. in International Studies with a concentration in International Business from the University of Iowa in May of 2006.

Serving His Country

A veteran of five years of service in the United States Army, McKinley was a paratrooper with the elite 82nd Airborne Division. He led his Tactical Signals Intelligence Intercept Team on more than 120 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Serving His Community

While growing up in Webster City McKinley was a volunteer with the Webster City Schools Special Olympics and Exceptional Persons Camp at Camp Wesley Woods in Indianola. He was also active in the Webster City Community Theatre and Faith United Methodist Church.

Serving Others

McKinley founded and served as President of the University of Iowa Veterans Association. The Association is a non-partisan organization dedicated to helping returning Veterans adjust to University Life and supporting all those who still serve. He also served as a Veterans Advisor in the University of Iowa Veterans Center, an entity that the University created in part as a result of lobbying by the Veterans Association.
In November 2006 McKinley was elected to his first two year term in the Iowa House of Representatives serving House District #9

1. I'd love to help but we have a good race here that needs my help
Sharon Savage has a good chance to send one of the more neanderthal of senators to retirement. That is probably insulting neanderthals. Senate district 40 that includes Muscatine, Tipton and a wee chunk of Iowa City.

If Sharon wins it will be a major, major upset.

3. I support those who vote with the party
I have been less than pleased with McKinley's failure to help the party on several major workers' rights issues. Good guy and I hope he does well in his re-election, but I hope we get a majority of liberal D's so that some of the DINOS have less power in the caucus.

4. McKinley Bailey is
A bit of a maverick and he does not always go with the party but he is running against a Neo-con Rush wannabe who would be absolutely horrible for this district. And it is bound to be a tough fight with all these special interest giving money to his opponent.
Anyways, If your looking for a progressive candidate, maybe Gretchen Lawyer in the 36? Her race is also looking to be tight, or even Swati, who is running for state senate.

Thanks for the input

5. Swati is basically an R
I am glad she is moving on to the Senate where if she is elected she will be drowned out and have much less power as her vote will not mean as much on most votes. Right now she can take her money from big business and block important votes. She has been terribly disappointing this session.

10. I'll second the request for help in District 36 - Gretchen Lawyer
Gretchen is a great candidate in a tough district, and we will need all the help (financially and actively) that we can get. She is up against a well known former city councilman with the potential to be an extreme member of our opposition. We'd appreciate all the help we can get here in our district, both now and later in the race!
