Heh, Skinny is kinda funny today......
<snip>

Now, politics… Leonard Boswell is nothing if not crafty. A few weeks ago, his campaign manager, Scott Ourth, sent a mailing accusing Boswell’s primary opponent of having “never acted in the best interests of our party.” And he said it was “irresponsible” of Ed Fallon to challenge the incumbent Democrat in a primary. Now comes a mailing in which Ourth says Boswell “appropriately (and much to his credit) gave me counsel” on those two points. In a not-so-subtle additional slap at Fallon, Ourth says “Congressman Boswell suggested that he was certain that Mr. Fallon had made contributions of value to our party at some point during his career.” And Ourth says Boswell reminded him that the freedom to run for office (even against Boswell) “is firmly ensconced in the pantheon of our most sacred and inalienable rights.” Skinny is not a cynic, but (a) doubts the first letter went out without Boswell’s approval and (b) wonders how many ways Ourth and Boswell will find to repeat the offending statements. Meantime, Ourth accuses Fallon “of playing fast and loose with the truth.” Presumably Boswell will demand a correction repeating the claim.

One other note, regarding Ourth; Skinny loves the word “pantheon” and is reminded of a colleague who once kept a list of prominent people posted above his desk. It was headed “pantheon of assholes.”

1. I liked the part about the Wakonda Club. It reminded me
Edited on Thu May-08-08 02:39 AM by Hardrada
of the time when my uncle managed the Rice Lake Golf Course up by Lake Mills. The town biz types would come out there and get buzzed and hit balls into the trees. The solution, of course, was not to be more sober and play possibly better golf but to cut down the trees! (Actually to blow down the big trees with dynamite!)

3. Is it possible to be a Dem and support neither Boswell nor Fallon?
I'm glad I don't live in the 3rd District right now. I like Leonard Boswell enough as a person, but I'm not a fan of his political stances. Conversely, I like Fallon's political stances enough, but I don't care for him as a person.

8. We know you're a follower
I guess its hard for you when someone talks about a fellow democrat who's supporting the other party and should be called a DINO. But then again, you come across as a follower type and you simply follow along with the democratic party and don't ever speak out.. God forebid you actually start to think for yourself and not have the party dictate everything to you..

Boswell is a DINO, a Blue dog democrat as he calls himself now(I didn't hear him calling himself this before this election) and his support for this administration is well noted even if you don't like it.

Boswell says he doesn't have time to debate Fallon yet he has found time to campaign..Yea we believe him(not). Now that's funny..

9. Did you reply to the right post?
I'm completely confused. Are you saying Debi doesn't think for herself? Are you on something?

From what I can tell, Debi was indicating that Counciltucky was making sense when he stated he prefers Fallon's political positions to Boswell's. Am I misunderstanding something?

As an aside, I proudly supported Fallon when he ran for governor, and obviously prefer him to Boswell. I just can't vote in that district, unfortunately.

11. If we were to look back at other threads in the Iowa DU Form
we would find that the poster doesn't like what post no matter WHAT I post about. Strange that a faceless, nameless individual can have that much animosity toward another faceless, nameless individual.

I agree 100% with Counciltucky on his observations about both Boswell and Fallon. I remember the Leonard Boswell that RAN for Congress, I remember my disappointment when he informed the IA-Fed that he was going to join the Blue Dog Democrats and I have continued in my disappointment with him as each year passes. I also have some less political and more personal issues with Fallon. And I don't know that his serving in the U.S. Congress would be a benefit to the 3rd District or to the State of Iowa.

However, I live in the 1st District so my opinion doesn't mean much - and my vote won't count. I've stayed out of the discussions for the most part because of that - but couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a jab at my beloved Counciltucky. He knows I adore him.

:hi:
