Found something pretty disgusting on KCRG's web site

I found a very offensive and despicable comment on KCRG's boards today on the story about McCain and Palin visiting Eastern Iowa. (http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/28356384.html)

KCRG management has left the comment up since it was posted and since it is still there after four days it doesn't seem like they have all that much concern about such comments.

1. There are a LOT of disgusting comments there.

The level to which political discourse has sunk in the country is frightening.

I hope those aren't all Iowans posting there. I hope we were a little better than that.

2. I've seen the same mentality at work in some posts on the Press-Citizen site as well -

I don't think the moderators do a lot to control those boards...

3. Unlike the Telegraph Herald

I've seen the Dubuque Telegraph Herald do at least a little bit more than the minimum to keep their site from becoming an open sewer, and take their job at least a little bit more seriously to moderate the boards. These outlets that think moderation is too much trouble would do well to learn from the TH's example.

4. At times like these

These type of people call out their right of free speech. They don't like free speech when you talk about women's rights or their bumpkin president, but when they want to be degrading and racist, it is fine. I think moderator's are sometimes afraid to remove these stupid comments.

5. Like I said, they need to look to the TH's example

Like I said, I think KCRG would do well to look to the Telegraph Herald's example. The moderators there were pretty much forced to grow a pair in the wake of Nicholas Blackburn last year because someone went and repeatedly posted a picture of a black person being lynched in the comments section of one of the stories on his death. The TH took down their comments section and got law enforcement involved at that point. They brought the comments feature back, but now they've tightened things up a bit.

6. They will likely censor my comments

because I, (gasp!), cussed! But I called out KCRG . Bigbaldy is the handle I used. So we shall see.

7. Eight days later and it's still there

And, as predicted, they did not post my comment. So I tried again, this time without cussing. I bet they still don't post it. Handle is still Bigbaldy.
