Who would be best to run for the Senate in 2010?
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:49 AM by 47of74
I know I'm getting ahead of things here, but I've been wondering for a while who would be the best person to run for the Senate in 2010 when Grassley's current term is up? And if Grassley decides to run again perhaps provide a lot more than the token opposition to Grassley that we've had in elections for the past 20 years. Would Vilsack be interested in doing that? Any other big names out there who would make good candidates and good Senators?

1. Braley or Vilsack
I hope it will be Braley. I think Vilsack will run and there's an outside chance that Pat Murphy or Mike Gronstal try to use gains made in at the statehouse to make a run.

I should also say that I think Grassley will be retiring and it will be an open seat.

6. How possible is it that Grassley will retire?
How possible is it that Grassley would chose to retire in 2010 instead of running again? He'll be 77 years old by the time of the 2010 elections.

2. Braley is my first choice
I could live with Vilsack (if he wins the primary :P)

I wonder who we're not thinking of....

3. David Loebsack
From what I've seen, this guy is sharp as a tack and a true Liberal.

5. Who would run for his seat?
If Braley runs I could see Sen. Jeff Danielson, Rep. Andrew Wenthe or several others picking up where Bruce left off.

Who would you run in Loebsack's district?

13. I don't know
I never really thought about it. I just think Loebsack is a wonderful Rep. and would be a fine Senator.

15. I'd love to see.....
SENATOR Pam Jochum run for Bruce's spot. We've waited a long time to elect a woman to Congress. Why shouldn't First District lead the charge?

Pam certainly has the credentials.

16. Cindy Winkler may be another good female candidate from the first
(of course I'm partial to my home county which is why I chose Sen. Jeff Danielson) But guarantee that if Braley takes the leap - ANY Dem. will be getting my vote! :hi:

11. Bill Gluba?
Perhaps Bill Gluba of Davenport?

14. Bill is sort of old
and lives in, works in, and loves Davenport, which is in the First District. So Mayor Gluba won't be Loebsack's replacement unless there is a major redistricting (which may happen).

4. Steve King
You didn't say which side ............. if that bastard ran, it'd be a guaranteed Democrat victory. The "Left" side (east) of the state would crush that idiot!

7. If that was the case you could run my dog as the Democratic candidate.
Assuming that Grassley retired and that back end of a horse Steve King were to run for the Senate you could have my dog run as the Democratic candidate for the Senate and he'd most likely win.

8. One of the Vilsacks. Christie would be my guess
Yes I am serious. I look for Braley or Loebsack to replace Harkin in six years.
Will Grassley retire? I would say probably not. He actually seems to be very fit etc. So, unless health intervenes I would say we are stuck unless some popular former governor or his wife.......

10. Has Harkin said anything about retiring in six years?
Has Harkin said anything about retiring after his next term?
