Culver idea: Borrow to improve infrastructure
Chet is going nowhere with this idea..

Iowa should consider going further into debt, Gov. Chet Culver said Friday.

"If we want to modernize our infrastructure - our sewer treatment facilities, our water treatment facilities - I don't know how bonding can stay off the table," Culver said Friday during a taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press."

Culver, who said Friday that he plans to seek a second gubernatorial term in 2010, has long been a supporter of renewable fuels. He said that taking on debt could help the state create or improve such things as electrical grids, telecommunications and rail systems, all of which are critical to the renewable fuel industry. The federal government would likely help pay for the projects, he said.

I'm sorry but we should not borrow against our future for one thing and the other being it should be to support this boondoggle called renewable energy.. Its a frickin farce to begin with..

1. When Bush went into office the per person dhunk
of the debt was around $15,000. After Obama gets through fixing all the Bush fuckups it will be probably 3 to 4 times that. And now it is owed to foreign countries who someday might actually want their money.
Right now I am having a knee jerk reaction that says enough already. I am also thinking a decent portion of the Obama money will return for state projects.

2. I disagree
If bonds are used to rebuild old buildings that aren't energy efficient with buildings that are LEED certified, have solar panels, and are energy efficient then we should. Bonds could be used to build light rail and expand broadband to rural communities.

If we use bonds to do the same old things, then sure it's a waste.
