Steve King may run for Governor
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009902100413

It Is His Duty?

Snip

"There's a duty for me, I think; I've made no decisions," King said, adding later that "it would be constructive for me at this point to say that the most important job right now is to bring together and reunify the Republican Party in this state."

He said the GOP suffered a disastrous election last year and blamed it on the party straying from its core principles

1. Maybe it will be one way to get him out of Northwest Iowa
We need all the help we can get..this guy refuses to debate his opponents, and still gets reelected. Let him run for governor and the rest of Iowa help vote this turkey out

He is a true looney tune..

7. If he has to face the part of Iowa that is not faith-based
he will find the stars marching against him in their courses and he will fall down as Lucifer did.

10. That is "If you ain't Dutch, then you ain't much" territory
:).. Being of the Irish persuasion, I used to get the biggest laugh out of that when going into Sioux or Lyon counties, to see the bumper stickers. That was one of the funnier bumper stickers.. my only regret was not buying one..

11. Aw, gee, why did you leave? :)
I make regular trips back there for work and family - specifically, George! I know it well. My parents are part of the handful of Democrats in that area but I hear that Rock Rapids and Larchwood are getting more Democratic because of overflow from Sioux Falls. (Of course a South Dakota Democrat is likely to be more conservative than a Vermont Republican).

12. I was originally from SE Minnesota and lived in Decorah
for years and just wanted to get back to my old scene again or closer to it anyway. And closer to Iowa City where I had once taken grad classes. I didn't dislike NW Iowa really and rather liked Rock Rapids but after awhile I felt a bit stifled. One good thing is that the progressive folks partied together since there were so few of us! I do miss that.

13. True - The few people I still consider friends there are the liberal ones.
I'm polite to everyone else, but I always have this creepy, uncomfortable feeling. I understand your "stifled" comment completely.

It's definitely a stark contrast to the "vibe" I get when we visit our daughter in Iowa City.

2. what are the "core" principals of the G(uarantee) O(ur) P(rivilege) party?
Based on observation I would say:
1) hate and marginalize those who do not look like us.
2) punish the poor and working class by enacting laws to wipe them out.
3) government money should be our money. We must make laws to move it into our pockets.
4) God is our friend. Mention your relation to God often and loudly.
5) Make sure the populace is constantly fearful of "those" people.

3. Oooh, yes please run Steve.
He and Vander Plaats can fight for the honor of "most out of touch with mainstream Iowans".

I think I'll send him a message encouraging him to put all of his energy (and money) into this endeavor!
