Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce: Buy Locally
The Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce is going to be doing a new push to encourage organizations (businesses, government, etc) to buy locally. On the surface it doesn't sound like too bad of an idea, to have people going local for goods and services when possible. Just so long as when they say local they mean local businesses and not the local Wal-Mart.

1. My first thought
when I read this was.....what's the use.

Now realizing how defeatist that sounds and thinking this through abit more. I like the idea. From the article is says they have been planning this since before the economic implosion and the summer floods.
I see no problem in emphasizing buying local......I think we all need to consider community. We know we would all be better off if our community is strong. CR has a long way to go to survive this double whammy.

I'm not sure what is going on lately with the flood victims and I feel bad I haven't kept better track. The last I knew there were still somewhere around 400-500 FEMA trailers being used.......and no one making the tough decisions that need to be made. Maybe something has happened recently I don't know about.
A month ago I ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in years. She had a smile on her face and told me how her and her husband were still living with her son and his family. She still didn't know what they were going to do.....no one was telling them. I hope that has been resolved, but fear it hasn't.

I don't know if any of you have been to downtown CR recently and seen how they are slowly rebuilding.....it is improving and it's good to see.

There has bee a sense of community since the summer disaster. Maybe the timing of this is good. I think it may be well received.
