1. The Hatefest was always there
It just took the election of President Obama and the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage to get it fully out in the open.

2. I meant the current one (the hate was just simmering before - now it's WAY out in the open)
There was so much celebration on Friday b/c of the ruling. But the religous institutions and the RW freaks cranked up the hate over the weekend. Here we are on Monday and the haters are protesting at the capitol.

*sigh*

3. Gah. I don't get it.
I'll use one of my relatives as an example. She's a conservative and generally falls in line with the RW on most social issues. She is appalled by this ruling of course.
When things like this come up I often go to the Beatitudes or other of Jesus' teachings to make a point. I try to find something in her frame of reference. But then she just sort of shuts off. She can't reconcile the conflicts between her faith and her party and choses the party line.

And leaving the religious aspect out of the equation doesn't work either. Hell, we have friends that are gay - it doesn't seem to bother her that they are treated as second class citizens. Gah!

Damn you cognitive dissonance!

9. True conservatives should applaud this ruling.
It is the essence of keep government out of your personal life.
Methinks the label should not be 'conservative.' Methinks 'fascist' captures it better.

8. I've thought about that
And if they show up here in Davenport, you very well may hear about a man going to jail for beating theb living hell out of them. I just have no use for these idiots. None. And if a judge had any sense, he or she would turn the assaulter loose for trying to do a great service for the community.

6. I just emailed the Gov and my local Congress peeps.
According to the Chicago Tribune the calls to Culver are split

Gov. Chet Culver has said only that he is studying the decision along with legal advisers. Spokesman Phil Roeder said the governor will likely have more to say on the issue, though the timing was uncertain.

Roeder acknowledged Culver was getting pressure on the issue from supporters and opponents.

"We're getting a bunch of phone calls and e-mails," said Roeder. "It's kind of split. It's been constant all day."

7. Just sayin'
The next chap who makes a "joke" about the number of livestock animals in Iowa intimately influencing the justices' decision is going to get smacked squarely in the face by me. It'll be well worth both the jail time and any fees.

10. "separate but equal" didn't work for skin color. It doesn't
for sexual orientation, either.
