No more courthouse weddings in Black Hawk County{/b}

Citing cutbacks in state funding and increased caseloads, magistrates in Black Hawk County have dropped free courthouse weddings from their duties.

Court officials said the decision had nothing to do with a recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling that will take effect Monday allowing same-sex marriage.

The magistrates will continue to offer weddings outside the courthouse, which are performed on their personal time and cost $200.

The decision came weeks ago as the state judicial branch mandated furloughs to curtail spending.
