"To me, at least it brings together a lot of experiences and a lot of expertise that not only I have but I think the team we've initially set up can provide for clients, and can provide for businesses, or individuals or groups that are interested in being effective in Washington, D.C.," the former Republican lawmaker told The Des Moines Register.

Nussle starts company ... during a recession Former U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle said Wednesday that he chose an odd time to go into business for himself, saying that he'd received ribbing for launching a consulting firm during the economic downturn.
"I thought that during a recession would be the perfect time to become an entrepreneur," Nussle said jokingly in a Des Moines Register interview the day he formally launched the Nussle Group in Washington, D.C.
But it's also keeping in character for the longtime Republican congressman.
After all, Nussle represented Democrat-leaning eastern Iowa in Congress. He was Iowa's Republican nominee for governor in 2006, which turned out to be a Democratic year. He also served as President George W. Bush's final budget director as the economy began its decline.
Nussle said his tendency to take on challenges made him recall his days as a volunteer firefighter in Manchester.
"When people hear about a fire, they tend to run out of the building," he said. "I'm trained to run into the building. That training has been quite useful."
