Marshalltown schools closed til May 10 due to H1N1 flu
http://timesrepublican.com/page/content.detail/id/516439.html?nav=5005

Due to six probable cases of the H1N1 flu virus in Marshall County with several of those being school-age children, the Marshalltown Community School District will be closed for school and all activities beginning Monday and running through at least May 10.

Staff and students are not to report to any of the schools for classes or any other activity including athletic events or practices during that time.

(snip)

Wade noted as of now the plan is to reopen the schools May 11 but that is subject to change.

(snip)

(MCSD Superintendent Marvin Wade) also said the district will be in discussions with the Department of Education on whether the week of school missed will have to be made up at a later time or not.

I believe Marshalltown schools were already running until June 11, because of all the snow days. Wow.

1. Wow indeed.
Apparently there are hundreds of schools nationwide closing. What a logistical nightmare.

I heard on NPR that the CDC is thinking of loosening the guidelines for school closings.

2. Wonder if the kids will hold a Fourth of July concert for their parents
Pstans said this comes at a terrible time b/c of end of the year testing and ITEDS. The kids take a week off and then come back to be tested on how much they've achieved over the past year. Not good.
