Why I favor choice (add on to 47of74's post on RTL in Dubuque)
When I was much younger and being brainwashed in the catholic church, anti-abortion was drilled into my head. This was the late 50s and early 60s. Despite that every year there was a spate of high school pregnancies and forced marriages. Every now and then you would hear of a girl who went to an abortionist. Often that girl never came back to town.
I was a freshman or sophomore at Iowa @1970. There was a very nice, very pretty young woman in one of my classes. I did not know her well at all. She quit showing up just before the end of the semester in May. After school was out I saw a mutual friend so I asked what had happened, why had she quit coming to class. He got very somber and told she had died. From a botched abortion. She had gone to have it over the weekend and ended up bleeding to death alone in a small room.

Every time I hear these RTL folks get on their holier than thou rant this girl comes to my mind. She died a painful, lonely death thanks to people like the RTL folks. A life of great possibilities gone. Family no doubt crushed.
Some nearly 40 years later I get a tear in my eye. What the RTL folks wanted was control over this young lady. To prove a point, to punish her for her failure. If abortions are made illegal, the botched abortion death will again become common.
Of course, the same people who oppose abortion also oppose contraception and the RU486 pill. Logic would tell you that the best way to stop abortions is to stop unwanted pregnancies.
When I was young, rich families were able to send their daughters to Europe for safe and legal abortions. If abortion is made illegal here much like botched abortions the trips to Europe for the rich will not stop either.

1. I think that some rtl people actually favor abortion
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 06:07 PM by Bluzmann57
As long as it's poor black children that are aborted. I actually had a sicko tell me this once. I asked him what he'd do if his daughter ever dated a black man, and he said that he'd disown her. Then he said that crack about aborting poor black children. I was at work so I simply walked away, but quite frankly, it took all the willpower I had not to belt him in the mouth right then and there.
On edit- you hardly need me to tell you this, but nice letter.

2. Such as gambling Bill Bennett
Gambling Bill Bennett one time stuck his foot in his mouth along with most of his leg by blurting out that crime could be reduced by aborting every black baby.
