Planned Parenthood director sends letter to the TH
Jennifer Ulrick, the health directory for Planned Parenthood, sent into the Dubuque Telegraph Herald a letter in to the editor that was published today.

It didn't take long for our local righties to latch on to this and start commenting away. One of the comments in particular caught my eye;

Why does PP have to get an employee from Des Moines to write in? Can't any of the DBQ employees defend themselves? Would they have printed a letter from Iowa Right to Life in Des Moines? I bet not. Seems to me that this just free advertising for PP.

It occurred to me when I read that comment with all the Randall Terrys, Scott Roeders, Tony Perkins, Bill O'Reillys, among others who are out there maybe none of the local staff feels comfortable in revealing their home address to the local righties. I think it's more of a safety thing than anything here. I myself am none too thrilled about having my home address published when I send letters to the editor, but if it's the cost of getting a letter published, so be it. Someone has to stand up to our local reich wing.

1. They publish your home address?
They should not do that. The local paper here, the QC Times asks for home address and phone no. for verification purposes only. Someone needs to take your paper to task for publishing home addresses. That is just wrong.

2. Even if they don't it is not hard to find a phone number and address
I can vouch for that. Had some rather nasty incidents myself.

4. I realize that's the case, but...
...I don't think the TH should be helping the crazies out by publishing the home address.

5. I haven't really had any nasty incidents
Most times I get a lot of compliments for standing up to the reich wing and how well written my letters usually are.

A rule of thumb I use when dealing with any mailed responses to my letters is that if the response has a return address on it I'll probably read it. If there's no return address it gets fed into the shredder without even being opened.

3. Why do I always want to throw up
after reading comments such as many of those responding to the PP letter. These people operate at a level of ignorance too deep for comprehension.
