2. Have fun ?
There's one here just before the Clarinda event but I don't think I can get to it. I'll probably be a better person if I stay away.

I can't think of any messages for Steve that can be said in public. :eyes:

Good Luck!

5. Up and down
First WAY-TO-GO Page Co. Dems. They had a table at the back of the room with Organizing for America fliers and health care posters and a flier on every chair in the room. King opened with Hollywood, eastern liberal, Nancy Pelosi, boogieman gonna getcha. Many health care questions King answered seemed to drift back to - if we do anything (mandatory insurance, pre-existing conditions, public options, single payer) it will take away our freedoms "applause". A local had a sad story about working every day and can't afford any insurance and "a thousand dollar policy doesn't cover shit". He said he was speaking for those younger because if he made it a few more years he would be 65. The saddest was a lady spoke about her years of welfare and government assistance and she thought it was ok then but now she doesn't. Now she works as a private contractor (sign language), her husband is in the insurance industry and she wants tort reform (and to drag the ladder up behind her).

Apparently the meeting here was a King love fest. Glad I couldn't make it.

King finds sympathetic crowd at Council Bluffs health care forum

Council Bluffs, Ia. — None of the people who attended U.S. Rep. Steve King’s packed town hall meeting in western Iowa today spoke in favor of the Democrat-backed health care legislation pending in Congress.

More than 150 attended King’s public meeting at the Council Bluffs library, the first of three events scheduled for the four-term Kiron congressman in southwest Iowa today. King spoke for a few minutes at the opening, but allowed questions and comments for most of the hour-long event.

Most who spoke echoed Ed Thompson, a Council Bluffs Republican who implored King, an opposent of the legislation, to do all he could to derail legislation in the Democrat-controlled House.

“I’m frightened of my government, and I doubt you could find five people in this room who aren’t,” said Thompson. “This can’t happen, Congressman. It cannot happen. I have rights guaranteed to me by God, not from someone in Washington.”

p.s. Thanks for your report. When I read about the meeting here, I was pretty depressed. Glad to see some of this district still has some sense.

How can the same state produce Braley and King, Harken and Grassley? Makes my head spin!

10. It's pretty damn frustrating.
I had hoped we turned a corner with the last two elections but it seems like these looks are more riled up than ever. And they are tenacious kooks too! There is no room to negotiate with these people. Even things that are centrist is too liberal for them.

12. It's okay. I often log on in the middle of the night, when the beag has
awakened me to go out. She comes back in, I log off and go back to bed.
