I got this email tonight:


Theatre Cedar Rapids will soon be putting on a performance of "The Laramie Project", which is a dramatic show based on reactions to the slaying of Matthew Shepard (a gay student) in Laramie, Wy. And like clockwork, the Westboro Baptist Church (the "God Hates Fags" folks) plans to travel here and protest it this Friday. Plans for the counter-protest are underway, and I think it would be cool if some Pastafarians (in full garb) were there to show them some love.

1. Can't go

Though I'd like to, sort of. But if I went, there's a damn good chance I'd end up in Linn County Jail for assault because I'd dearly love to pound a few of the Westboro jackasses into submission. But work calls, and maybe it's a good thing.
on edit- I'd like to apologize to all jackasses out there for equating them with westboro "church".

60 miles one way on a cold night - I think I will stay home. I am one who might see the inside of a jail also.

I realized that jackasses actually serve a purpose where the westboro creatures serve none. The one and only time I ever agreed with hannity(!) was once when I was channel surfing and heard him tell Mrs. Phelps that she "looks like a witch".

3. we were ready for them

last summer when Ames comm. theater did this show. they didn't turn up. Just as well the counter protest would've blown the phelps zombies away ;)
