And so it begins.
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 01:50 AM by progressoid
Walk in the door and my daughter hands me the phone. It's a call from Roxanne Conlin's campaign looking for donations. Sorry Roxanne, I'm broke and haven't even decided who I'm supporting yet.

Then after dinner, a robo-call from Branstad. :banghead: Dumbass.

Sooo...anybody want to give their two cents about a preferred candidate for the Senate race?

Roxanne Conlin: http://roxanneforiowa.com/
Sal Mohamed: http://www.salmohamedforussenate.org/

1. In my dream of perfection--- Sal Mohamed beats Steve King in the 5th
His message is so positive I feel better when I hear him. He would be a better Senator than Grassley. I have seen Conlin several times and think she would be a fine senator. I give her the nod today but I'm still looking.

3. Yeah, I have a feeling she'll get the nom but it seems
Bob Krause isn't too happy with her connection to Monsanto.

"I respect Roxanne's campaign announcement statement that she will not accept federal political action committee money. But Is she reconsidering her campaign promise to avoid being overly influenced by special interests? Does taking regular high-level campaign advice and guidance from someone of the stature of Jerry Crawford constitute an in-kind campaign contribution?"

"If so, is she placing by her side as a close advisor someone that farmers may question -- especially on anti-trust matters -- relating to the price of genetically modified Monsanto seed as well as on environmental matters relating to genetic contamination of non-Monsanto seed with patented Monsanto seed?"

"Her announcement was very forthright when she said ˜I will not accept financial contributions from political action committees or lobbyists. If she is serious about this, the general intent is to limit as much as is possible the influence of lobbyists as compared to the average citizen. Influence comes from two sources -- access and money. In this case, access through high level connections is just as valuable as money."

"A key organizer and close advisor for the Conlin campaign, prominent Des Moines attorney Jerry Crawford of Des Moines, is a federally registered lobbyist with Monsanto for the purposes of lobbying the federal government. According the Iowa Independent, 'the Crawford, Quilty & Mauro law firm in Des Moines filed lobbying registration papers with both the U.S. House and Senate on Nov. 10, in the areas of competition/antitrust, environmental law, regulations and policies.'"

5. Seriously????
Krause seriously considers talking to a fellow Democrat and close friend to be an in-kind campaign contribution. That has to be one of the most foolish attacks I have ever heard from a candidate, Democrat or Republican.

There is only one serious candidate in the Senate race and that is Roxanne Conlin. And I am quite comfortable saying that Roxanne is also the most progressive of the 3 candidates.

2. I haven't decided either
But any of these Senate candidates would be 1,000 times better than Schmuck Assley.
