Muscatine legislative forum Feb. 27
The monthly legislative session in Muscatine took place last weekend, rescheduled so the repugs could have their county conventions this weekend.
There are five reps/ senators that appear. Repugs Jeff Kaufmann, Tom Sands and Sen. Jim Hahn. Dems Nathan Reichert and Tom Courtney. Believe me, Reichert and Courtney are two of the best around.
Now to the story. During question time I got up to make some comments. One was to thank those who voted against the attempt to short circuit the constitutional amendment process. In reply, Republicans hit their talking point 'should be put to a vote' BS.
But Tom Courtney really put things in perspective. He started by saying he couldn't argue with much I had said. Then he said (paraphrase) "I do want to say one thing about the gay marriage decision. It's been nearly a year and as far as I know not one marriage has ended because of marriage equality. Matter of fact, I don't think I have even heard he decision even talked about by anyone except those who want to stop it. Let me say also that a year ago I liked girls, and today I still like girls - a lot. So I don't see that this decision has had any effect at all except to make some people happy."
He brought the house down.
