Todd Lickliter has been
dismissed from his position as head coach of the Iowa men's basketball team.
IOWA CITY - Todd Lickliter has been dismissed as head men's basketball coach at the University of Iowa. His firing came four days after the Hawkeyes wrapped up one of their worst seasons ever. Iowa struggled this year with a 10-22 record, the most losses in school history.
The announcement was made during a news conference at 2:30 Monday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The school's athletic director Gary Barta said that the search for his replacement "begins today".
Barta says he weighed all the pluses and minuses and came to a decision Monday morning that a change was necessary. Barta says the program's problems don't fall exclusively on Lickliter's shoulders.
I hate to see anyone lose their job, but Mr. Lickliter is set for the next few years as far as money goes. Which is a lot more than other people who lose their jobs - often through no fault of their own - can say. I do wonder what's next for Iowa and for Mr. Lickliter.
