Health care vote

Hi, I have been working at getting health care reform--numerous phone calls, grabbing the elbows of both Senator Harkin and my member of congress (literally) and asking them about it. I am still pissed that there is no public option, with low-cost premiums for anyone who wants to buy into a plan (or Medicare, or Medicaid, for that matter). I do not see how one can call this "reform" if there is no challenge (competition) to the insurance industry.

I still do not know if financially-strapped people will be able to afford any of the plans in the "exchange". Obama says there will be "subsidies", but how much will they help?

I think this process has really stunk to high heaven, but so what else is new in US politics? It is being reported now that Obama made a deal with the insurance industry for their support if he quashed the public option (let alone single-payer). So much for "changing Washington"...

But, oh, well, I hope that it still passes. Maybe it is a start to something better...
