In our local fish wrap, we have this:
If the healthcare reform bill is so good for the people, why won’t President Barack Obama sign up for it?
That’s a question raised by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, during his weekly telephone news conference. Grassley has proposed legislation to make these reforms apply to the president, vice president and other top Washington leaders.
“All these people remain untouched by the reforms that have taken effect for the rest of the country,” Grassley said. “If my amendment isn’t passed, then President Obama will not live under the Obama healthcare reforms, and neither will the congressional staff, who are most responsible for helping to write this overhaul. That sends a message to the people at the grassroots that the health reforms are good enough for you, but not for us.”
Nevertheless, his amendment will probably be voted down, he added.
And it was late Wednesday evening.
“As a result, President Obama will not have to live under the Obama healthcare reforms, and neither will the congressional staff who helped to write the overhaul,” Grassley reiterated through his office.
This “double standard” has been going on for decades, Grassley said.
