1. All ok, here, Peace.
That's a bad deal. Best wishes to the folks affected. Climate change? I won't go down that road, tonight.

3. Climate change? I will go down that road.
See, I work with and live around rednecks, teabaggers, freepers, dumbasses, whatever one wants to call them. And I'm tired of all their non fact based bullshit. So I'm fighting back.
And to those who are affected by the never ending flooding, good luck to you. Hope FEMA doesn't screw you this time.

5. Well, Bluz. We all do.
The problem is, it does't stop the ignorance. Delaware and Jones counties? I don't think the political make-up of these places is a hard guess.

I think the worst is passed here but we shall see tomorrow I suppose.

Yes, infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure. We are securing the wrong kind of banks.

7. The Wapsi was pretty high Friday
Probably even higher now after all these storms.

The north fork of the Maquoketa River is up real high in Cascade.

Sad to see it gone now. You have to wonder if Iowa is ever going to have a year without flooding.
I'm glad Coralville is working hard building flood controls so we don't get hammered again.

By the way, Debi is on Facebook all the time, you can always contact her there.

14. My parents got 6 feet (yes, feet) of water in their basement.
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 08:33 PM by progressoid
11 inches of rain in George IA. Reports of 150-500 homes flooded and water damaged in a town of 1100.

Here's a story and video about a great, long-time Democrat and family friend.

http://www.ktiv.com/global/video/popup/pop_playerLaunch.asp?vt1=v&clipFormat=flv&clipId1=4967441&at1=News&h1=Storm drops 11-inches of rain on George, IA&flvUri=&partnerclipid=

GEORGE, Iowa (KTIV) - Officials in Lyon County, Iowa estimate as much as 11 inches of rain fell on George, Iowa, on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Because there was so much rain at once, damage to this small town is affecting almost everyone. At least 150 homes have water in their basements according to Lyon County emergency management. Wayne Jepsen says " At this point our water levels gone down we just have to get all the homes pumped out and try to get the infrastructure back in place again."

There was so much water in basements that foundation walls even caved in. Donna Krahling's home was one of them. Her son, David, says there was at least an inch of water above the main floor of her home last night. "And that pressure caused this basement wall to buckle and water of course rushed into the basement," said David Krahling, homeowner.

The water is starting to recede in Donna's basement. She says that everything will be fixed but nothing can be saved. "Everything, I think everything will have to be thrown away cuz it was up to the ceiling so everything has been soaked up. So I don't think there is anything we can save out of there. says Krahling.

The worst thing about that kind of flooding is the mold afterwards.. and the smell.. Hope your friends are okay.

16. They are working through it.
Pretty much everything in the basement and garage is damaged or destroyed.

Like many small IA towns (and a lot of America I suppose), there isn't a lot of disposable income to fix things. FEMA was there making assesments so hopefully we'll see some aid. I'll be back up there in a week or so.

Hey, are you in Sioux City? How'd RAGBRAI go?

For a few years. Peaceable little towns that people struggle to keep up.

Pretty right wing though (except for my parents and a handful of others). Mostly good people; just a little misguided politically.

we have been very lucky that we have missed much of the really bad stuff - unlike other years.
We have been so busy that checking into DU for more than a few minutes is a luxury. Got to help Chuck back to the farm.
ETA - thanks for the concern. This is sort of like family on here.
