Iowa DNR Director Resigns, Cattle Factory Update (Scott Co.)
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 04:16 PM by cyberswede
I received this email from CCCI. If you could, please consider contacting Rich Leopold re: the factory farm.
Thank you!
---------------------------------------------

The Director of the Iowa DNR, Rich Leopold, is resigning.
http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2010/08/17/iowa-dnr-director-leopold-resigns-to-take-wildlife-job-in-minnesota/

But Leopold has some unfinished business to settle before he leaves, particularly denying the construction permit for Bryan Sievers’ gigantic 9,500-head a year cattle factory farm. I just got an email from DNR officer Paul Pettiti, and to date, Sievers has failed to respond to the DNR’s 20-point letter.

CALL AND EMAIL DIRECTOR LEOPOLD RIGHT NOW AND TELL HIM TO DENY SIEVERS’ CONSTRUCTION PERMIT BEFORE HE LEAVES OFFICE.

We’re holding a press conference at the DNR’s office in Des Moines on Thursday morning, where we will be calling on the DNR and Director Rich Leopold to stand up and do the right thing and vote no on the Sievers cattle factory farm proposal. It’s one more reason why being a member of a statewide organization has so many perks. Because even when CCI staff is not down in Scott County, we are up in Des Moines, at the state capital, at the DNR’s headquarters, etc, fighting for you guys day in and day out. And the rest of our membership is too.

1. If Branstad wins the governor's race this year,
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 05:18 PM by petersjo02
you can say hello and welcome to this cattle feeding monstrosity in your neighborhood. Branstad never met a corporation that he didn't like, and he'll be more than happy to appoint a DNR director who sees things his way, and Dennis Black will be his biggest booster. Democrat? Not so much. It was such a relief to see Branstad and Wilson disappear into the mist 8 years ago. I dread what the terrible cost will be to Iowa's natural resources under Republicans back in power again. Elections do have consequences.
