What a P.O.S.
U.S. Rep. Steve King stopped by The Gazette this afternoon. And yes, he knows we’re not in his district.
These days, it’s good to be the King. He’s tooling around the state and the country, giving speeches, appearing on radio and TV shows, chewing the fat with newspaper scribes. He’s a fire-breathing, tea-party animal at a time when outraged people are lining up in droves to have their torches lit and cups filled. The guy is in his element.
“There’s a real energy out there,” King said.
He still won’t debate his Democratic opponent, Matt Campbell, who barged into one of King’s town hall meetings a few weeks ago to demand a joint appearance. King calls that a “tantrum” and says it’s only the press that wants a debate. He insists Campbell is spreading falsehoods, and King doesn’t want to spend 60 minutes “correcting the record.”
Later during his visit, however, King said he would like to have a health care debate with U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, the Democrat who represents Cedar Rapids. Maybe the winner of that could move on to debate Campbell.
