LOGAN, Iowa — As expected, Andrew Schlichtemeier was sentenced Thursday to 50 years in prison for killing four friends who were riding motorcycles home from a trip.
Schlichtemeier expressed remorse before the sentence was announced:
“What can I say that will erase the fact that my actions killed four people? These four men were great people and their lives ended too soon. I am so sorry.”
Schlichtemeier, 22, had pleaded guilty to driving drunk when his pickup truck veered into the oncoming motorcyclists on Interstate 29 last Aug. 9.
