Is KCRG finally getting tired of online commenting?
Since it seems that most online commenting features seem to devolve into people throwing raw sewage around - especially when it deals with certain subjects - maybe KCRG is finally getting tired of the game;

Commenting will be disabled on stories dealing with the following subject matter: Violent crime, sexual abuse, Amber Alerts, Operation Quickfinds and suicides.

I noticed this evening that a lot of their stories didn't have the comments feature turned on anymore. Not that I'm complaining. I'm glad they seem to be getting it that it's just not worth the trouble.

1. I see that often
You'd think that once they got rid of anonymous commenting (they now use Facebook-based comments that identify the poster), people would be more selective in what they write. Clearly, that isn't the case. People are just as judgmental and vitriolic as always.

3. They just had an article about shots fired in SE Cedar Rapids
There was an article about shots fired in SE Cedar Rapids. Sounds like initially they tried to leave the comments on. And of course, the comments got turned off quickly;

EDITORS NOTE: Comments have been disabled for this story because of the racist nature of some of the conversation and because of personal attacks.

2. The Muscy Journal did something similar last year
after a rather really vile right wing attack concerning a family situation.
Some friends of mine are campaigning for the MJ to have folks use their real names when they comment.

5. Was that the case of the Hispanic teenager
who apparently took off with an older guy to have sex? If so, the QC Times screwed up royally by publishinh her name. Once. They did not do it again. But once was enough.
