I like how the author of this article highlights how Iowa has always been a leader when it comes to civil rights (even though he's a republican). :)

Perhaps it shouldn't have surprised me, but it did, when former Iowa state Senator Jeff Angelo launched Iowa Republicans for Freedom whose mission is to change the hearts and minds of Iowa's social conservatives who currently oppose marriage equality. Angelo told the Des Moines Register, "I don't think this debate reflects the character of Iowans, the culture of Iowa."

2. IIRC Angelo became a believer when he saw opposition to equality

as hurting the Republicans in the future.
He then backed into the understanding that marriage equality actually hurts no one and helps many.
Maybe I am just very suspicious of any RW repub finding religion for religion's sake, not as something he can use.
