Attorney's Office: No permit needed for Occupy Iowa City protest

The Iowa City Attorney's Office has issued a press release declaring that today's planned Occupy Iowa City protest in College Green Park will not need a permit.

The release states that section 10-1-2 of the Iowa City Code states that permits are required for public assemblies of 100 or more people in a city park. However, there is an exception: "spontaneous events responding to news or affairs coming into public knowledge within three (3) days of such public assembly or parade provided that the organizer thereof gives written notice to the city manager or designee at least one hour prior to such parade or public assembly." ...
