Report from Braley event
I know I posted about Braley less than 24 hours ago but I just got back from a small event in Independence (at Two Brothers) and Bruce Braley is the real deal. His mini-stump speech was exciting as he showed that he's not just another play-it-safe Democrat that's boring as hell while at the same time delivering progressive-populist themes informed by values of justice and civic responsibility, not knee-jerk liberalism. I'm excited about this campaign and will be attending another event this Sunday in Cedar Falls, here's the info:

Bruce, Blues, and Barbecue Celebration!
featuring Checker and the Bluetones!
Sunday, September 11th, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Island Park Boat House in Cedar Falls

1.  "not knee-jerk liberalism"
What in your opinion would be classified as "knee-jerk liberalism"?

2. response
Knee-jerk liberalism is when liberal political thought is applied to any sort of cause with a reckless mindset that everything must be as liberal as possible, merely for the sake of being liberal. I have seen this on my college campus in the classroom and in student activism. A classroom example is the un-abiding allegiance to "multiculturalism" because it's liberal to value multiculturalism, when in fact some cultural practices protected under the guise of "multiculturalism" are in fact profoundly unethical and "illiberal" Ultimately the conflicts between two liberal perspectives, multiculturalism and feminism, go unaddressed for the sake of retaining the state of mind that at the end of the day, we are still the most liberal of the liberal. I hope that makes some sense.

3. Went to his website
and I see that he's back in Davenport on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the Rainbow District. Does he know that the "Rainbow District" is the section in Davenport where the homosexual bars are located? If so, then I guess I'll give him credit for courting the homosexual vote. A note about aforementioned district, the owners of the bars have done an incredible job of cleaning the area up. It was a hotbed of crime before they got there and now barely a peep is heard down there. While I am decidedly not homosexual (some women will tell you that maybe I'm too heterosexual lol) I may at go down there and check him out anyway. As yet, I am somewhat undecided, though leaning toward Gluba as he is a local guy.

4. Bruce's committment
One of the main reasons I support Bruce and why I have donated to him is due to his support of the GLBT community. In fact, as a lawyer Bruce took on a case of a man who died of AIDS after the insurance carrier refused to pay contractual benefits. It was a tough case and Bruce fought for this man and his surviving family and won. Bruce's committment to equality continues and that is why I hope he represents all of Iowa in Congress.
