At a party fundraiser in Shenandoah this evening retired businessman Robert Chambers, of Essex, Iowa announced his candidacy as the Democratic nominee for US Representative in Iowa’s 5th District. The 66 year old resident of Page County is a fifth generation Iowan who moved back to the state upon retirement from 33 years in hi-tech manufacturing. During that career he was employed by six Fortune 500 companies as well as establishing his own international consulting firm. Mr. Chambers believes that his wide range of job functions, from a shop floor union member, middle management, the executive board room as President COO of a corporation, and as proprietor CEO of his own company gives him a solid perspective on how to work with people to achieve goals and objectives that satisfy the needs all stakeholders.
In his announcement Mr. Chambers cited a few of his major concerns for our country and Western Iowa that prompted his candidacy;
· Congress has abandoned it role as a check and balance on the other branches of government.
· Huge annual deficits and mounting Federal debt.
· Management of the ill conceived and poorly executed war in Iraq.
· Strengthening Social Security, not destroying it.
· Health care for all Americans.
· Energy independence.
· Fair Trade vs Free Trade.
· Civil Liberties.
Mr. Chambers encouraged those at the fundraiser to contact him at his e-mail bobchambers@heartland.net .
