My daughter tells me that Soledad O'Brien is coming to
her campus, Iowa State, to speak.

Can anyone think of nasty, pointed questions to ask her after her talk?

Thanks in advance.

1. What kind of a name is Soledad for a woman?
What nationality is she anyway? Anyone know?

6. Not sure why it matters, but....
I believe she is both Black and Hispanic.

Soledad is pretty common name. I looked it up and I guess the "meaning" is healthy or solitary..its also a city in Colombia.

I think we could probably find more appropriate things to pick at though.

10. I didn't mean anything derogatory about her
I just thought her name was different. Someone in here said she was black AND hispanic. I saw her picture in a mag. and her twins are pale, blond and blue eyed. (I hope no one takes THAT out of context):eyes:

15. Is that the kind of question you normally ask in conversation?
Oh, nice to meet you...what kind of name is that for a man/woman?

What nationality are you? Why don't your children look like you?

Seems a little too personal. I guess to each their own.

5. Yes,

Why did you become a journalist? Was it so you could simply repeat what you're told by your (republican) corporate masters instead of reporting the real news?

Why do you value your job more than your country & the people the media is supposed to serve?

Why do you think you deserve to keep your job?

7. Yes, I have one. Why has R. Senator Vitter been almost invisible
during the whole Katrina crisis, elected Republican officials in Mississippi have been likewise able to stay under the radar, while everyone in the entire world now knows the name of every Democratic elected official in Louisiana and how the response was really their fault? In fact, see if she can even NAME the Republican senator from LA.

11. Good ones. I thought of another:
Young people, like college students, get much of their news from the Internet. For example, I can spend a half hour on the Internet and find more news and discussion than I can get from her two-hour infotainment show.

How are you going to keep television journalism relevant to young adults, Soledad?

12. Great question!
I really think that the young people now (I include myself, and I am 27) get more and more of their news and information from the internet as opposed to the nightly news of yesteryear.

I think has something to do with the fact that the stories are usually told in much more detail, and because my generation is notorious for wanting everything on their own terms. We don't like to wait for news at 6 and 10 and we want to read the stories that interest us.

I think TV news shows have a long way to go catch up to the net, and they better get on it!

13. Question
Ask her what the smallest salary is amongst the CNN anchors and whether that makes them unable to comprehend the problems of the poor of New Orleans to escape from the path of Katrina.

14. Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner
:applause:

How many showers did she get to take during her Katrina coverage?
How many meals did she eat? And how many times did she get to change her clothes?

16. When will the press start asking Bush about all the misleads
in getting us into Iraq and in prosecuting the war? Why does this guy get a pass from the press?
Also, why do Republican talking points show up on CNN as 'news'? (eg 'Ronnie Earl a partisan who is out to get Tom DeLay')
Also, is there any good reporters in the White House staff besides Helen Thomas?
