Iowa City Radio Personality Tells Clear Channel to Take a Hike

On edit: I should make it clear that KXIC is owned by Clear Channel.

Longtime Iowa City radio personality Roy Justis announced on air Friday morning he was leaving KXIC, 800-AM.
In a two-minute statement to listeners at 7:30 a.m., Justis said his definition of truth and fairness was different than the company's, and it was his last day.
Justis said he was ordered to leave by the station's business manager at 9:30 a.m. Friday, 30 minutes before his show was scheduled to end.

From the Gazette: "In all honesty, it came down to money and fairness," Justis said in an interview this afternoon. "I've tried to do my dangdest over the past few years to swallow hard and try to stay involved in the community and volunteerism and try to keep the station out front."

I never really listened to this station, but it's a shame someone can devote 37 years and get treated like crap.

1. You may have noticed I have posted many times about bringing

progressive radio to eastern Iowa. KXIC is our target station since it has a strong signal and is located in the very liberal Iowa City. Having said that, this certainly was quite an interesting turn. Not sure how it may affect our campaign. KXIC may have some time to fill now, though.

2. If you are successful with KXIC

I fear that may hurt our local AAR affiliate here in the Quads. KXIC is a HUGE station, in fact, I often listen to Cub games on it here in Davenport because the local station which carries said Cub games stinks. In other words, if KXIC is an AAR affiliate station, it'll probably be good bye for WKBF in the Quad Cities. But good luck anyway.

3. Maybe they would carry a biy of a different lineup

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to choose between Franken and Hartmann, Schultz and Rhodes, Malloy and Lionel? I'd say Stephanie and Springer, but that's a no-contest.

4. So they never gave him a raise over a 5 year period

and only a 3% raise last year?

He also came in at 3am to clean out his desk. He must of known it would be bad, but not that bad. Let him finish his show, but I guess that is not the Clear Channel way.

He said the paper is being inundated with LTTEs about Roy Justis.
