Tax Day 2006!
Join us for an educational demonstration located at the main post office in Cedar Rapids on Tax Day, from 4:00 pm. Volunteers will be picketing post offices at many locations around the state. We will distribute “Priorities pens” to post office customers. These pens dramatically illustrate the inequities in our federal budget. This is a fun and easy volunteer activity.
Sponsored by Iowans for Sensible Priorities www.sensibleiowans.org ,Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Dubuque Peace and Justice, and WFPI.
“Why We Fight” Documentary
Opens Friday, April 14th at the Collins Road Theater, Cedar Rapids
Winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s 2005 Grand Jury Prize
This documentary examines the Military Industrial Complex, a society that sustains itself through a constant state of war. Director Eugene Jarecki refrains from placing the blame on any one presidency or political party, and offers no definitive solution to the questions he poses. He instead offers a variety of truths, and allows the audience to attempt to salvage answers for itself from an incredibly complex, sometimes mysterious, and often terrifying state of affairs. (WFPI gives this movie “two thumbs up”.)
