Yes, this info is from a conservative web site - I'm too lazy to go to the FEC web site and cut and paste when someone else already did all the work for me!

Anyone's thoughts on the money race? d.

1. Kinda related
I heard a republican on NPR today bitching about 527s. Evidentally, now that the Democratic candidates and supporters have learned how to use these groups to their best advantage, the GOP doesn't like them anymore.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of how money was spent (office, staff, advertising, travel, etc.) When my godfather ran for mayor of my little Oklahoma town, he won on a budget of $500 dollars. LOL! Of course, he had me and my brothers and sisters peddling our bikes around town to pass out his propaganda.

It would also be interesting to see how much money that is per capita:
How much is that per person in the district?
How much is that per registered voter in the district?
How much is that per 'person who voted in the last election'?

Personally, I think the amount of money spent on campaigns is obscene. I'm not sure how many homeless shelters are in this district, but let's pretend there are 10. If we take only the money which has already been spent, that would be roughly $45,000 for each shelter. Wow.

I bitch too much, don't I? I swear, in real life, I'm not nearly as negative as I fear I come across here at DU. LOL!

2. You don't bitch too much - you are being realistic
I think publicly funded campaigns w/a limited campaign season is totally the way to go. Unfortunately I don't believe that the money spent on campaigns would magically go toward social issues. I think too many people do try to buy their influence and would not be so altruistic. If they can't purchase their government they sure as hell aren't going to support the one they get. (We'd continue to see the very wealthy and the very poor). Negative enough for ya?
