I wasn't asked about Blouin ad, Vilsack says
The governor's name and photo appear in the spot, prompting him to restate that he's neutral in his party's gubernatorial race.


Gov. Tom Vilsack found himself in the uncomfortable position Tuesday of reasserting his neutrality in the Democratic gubernatorial primary campaign, as a campaign advertisement containing his name and picture hit the air.

Vilsack's spokesman said the governor would have denied fellow Democrat Mike Blouin's request to use his name and picture in the ad, which began running in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, had he been asked.

However, the ad also projects Blouin as a Vilsack protege.

Vilsack on Tuesday called Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver, who also is running for the Democratic nomination, to say he had not been told of the ad. Campaign aides for state Rep. Ed Fallon, another candidate, said Vilsack did not contact them.
