There's been a storm of controversy lately in Lawrence. Mysterious push polling from last month has resulted in a series of targeted postcards primarily aimed at denouncing the local Progressive candidates. The problem has become so large that over 100 people showed up in front of city hall yesterday (Sunday) for a progressive ad hoc group calling itself
Citizens for Campaign Integrity asking for free and fair elections in Lawrence.
http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/200961The postcards are primarily targeting David Schauner, a progressive, who is running for re-election in the city commission race on Tuesday.
http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/200628Interestingly enough, the person who has been identified as being involved in this scheme doesn't even live in Lawrence and he can't vote in the election on Tuesday.
http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/201016Not surprisingly, none of the three contractor-friendly candidates will publicly denounce these postcards. Even though all three of them were just a few feet away from the culprit on Sunday at the city hall rally. Sue Hack, Mike Amyx and Tom Bracciano were all asked to speak to their "benefactor" at yesterday's rally and ask him to stop it. All three declined.
If you know anyone in Lawrence who is voting in Tuesday's city commission election make sure they know what is going on. Also, remind them to vote "NO" on the marriage amendment. This marriage amendment will not only outlaw gay marriage but it will destroy common law marriages as well.
Pressure from a local progressive website,
http://larryville.com/forum has forced the Journal World to cover this story. For more on what's going on in our fair city please check out larryville.com.
The overreaching is incredible. Please help us fight back by spreading the word.
