Free and fair elections in danger in Lawrence, Kansas
There's been a storm of controversy lately in Lawrence. Mysterious push polling from last month has resulted in a series of targeted postcards primarily aimed at denouncing the local Progressive candidates. The problem has become so large that over 100 people showed up in front of city hall yesterday (Sunday) for a progressive ad hoc group calling itself Citizens for Campaign Integrity asking for free and fair elections in Lawrence. http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/200961

The postcards are primarily targeting David Schauner, a progressive, who is running for re-election in the city commission race on Tuesday. http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/200628

Interestingly enough, the person who has been identified as being involved in this scheme doesn't even live in Lawrence and he can't vote in the election on Tuesday. http://www.ljworld.com/section/election05/story/201016

Not surprisingly, none of the three contractor-friendly candidates will publicly denounce these postcards. Even though all three of them were just a few feet away from the culprit on Sunday at the city hall rally. Sue Hack, Mike Amyx and Tom Bracciano were all asked to speak to their "benefactor" at yesterday's rally and ask him to stop it. All three declined.

If you know anyone in Lawrence who is voting in Tuesday's city commission election make sure they know what is going on. Also, remind them to vote "NO" on the marriage amendment. This marriage amendment will not only outlaw gay marriage but it will destroy common law marriages as well.

Pressure from a local progressive website, http://larryville.com/forum has forced the Journal World to cover this story. For more on what's going on in our fair city please check out larryville.com.

The overreaching is incredible. Please help us fight back by spreading the word.

1. Lawrence Journal
I just read todays story about it in the Lawrence Journal (on-line). Looks like the guy that printed and mailed all of those is going to be in deep horse pucky.

2. I've been reading about this, and all I can say is, thank heavens
for the Internet! I hope the progressives in Lawrence are able to undo the damage ... and Capra needs to be in deep horse puckey if he isn't already.

3. Is Capra the guy...
that goes by the handle "vitosplumbing" on Lawrence message boards? If so, that guy is a deeply disturbed individual.

7. No specific link...
I think he was banned at larryville.com but posts at rivercitytalk.com. Trying to communicate with him would be foolish. You'd have a much more intellectually engaging and stimulating experience by flying up here and having a debate with my 2 year old on whether or not she can have a rice krispie treat at the coffee shop. (And I'm not exaggerating.)

8. LOL! And if she's busy, my 4-y.o. would be happy to debate
on whether he can drive his tricycle to the grocery store and do all the shopping by himself...

9. Yipes!
It sounds as if this is a debate you've already had yourself. I hope you won.

11. I don't know
but it has certainly kept me busy lately. I got so upset that I did lit drops over the weekend for the Progressive Lawrence Campaign in spite of the fact the doctor told me to stay in bed and nurse my pneumonia or risk relapse (too late! - I just crawled out of bed for a few minutes to see what was going on in the world).

From the talk around town it sounds like one of Lawrence's least favorite developers may be part of the deep pockets for the mailings.
