I'm thinking about sending Dennis Moore's campaign signs back
to his office cut up in to little pieces. I put up the sign at election time and kept it in my garage like they asked me to so that they can save money for the next election. I'm thinking of sending it back to him because he voted "YES" on the bankruptcy bill. To his credit, he did vote against repealing the estate tax. That got me thinking. Is it more important to keep him in office because he is a democrat (in Kansas, of all places)or should I be standing behind someone that might reflect my ideals more, even though there is no way in hell they would win Dennis's spot? (Who that is, I don't know)Just curious, I have the scissors ready but I haven't cut anything yet.

1. He is a Dem in a conservative state and is always one of the most
heavily targeted incumbents. This last election was his best yet but he is always very close. If he fights a bad primary battle, he will have a tougher time winning a general election. And, surely you can remember his last opponent.....this one vote shouldn't make all the difference if you consider what you might have had representing you.

2. Always a tough call
and it's hard to keep the emotions in check ... but ... it is better to have a Democrat in office, even one with whom you have issues than to have the seat go Republican. Why?

Majority parties control the agenda, what legislation gets voted upon, legislative committees and investigations, etc. So even a bad progressive Democrat is a boon when compared to even the most "liberal" Republican.

I hate to "hold my nose" on these votes also but there is a bigger picture at stake.

3. I'm angry about the bankruptcy vote too, but am afraid that
if he loses his seat, he'll be replaced with a Republican wacko. I don't want that on my conscience. But I'd still like to throw a pie at him for that one vote. That bill was unconscionable. (Note: That wasn't really a threat of violence, Agent Mike, because my aim is notoriously bad. It's just a little political fantasy to make myself feel better. Nothing to see here...) :banghead:

4. I, too, am constantly
furious at Dennis Moore for his votes. I know about the reality of his being a Democrat from so heavily Republican a district, but it still is bothersome.

What's the likelihood of a liberal Democrat actually challenging Moore in the primary? And what's the chance of that person winning the primary? And then, what if the Republicans put up a real moderate themselves?

Do what you want to with the sign, but unless several thousand people were to do the same thing I don't think it would matter that much.

As terrible as Dennis Moore is in many ways, he's the best we can do at the moment here in Kansas. What we really have to worry about is when he gets tired of having to run for office all the time, and decides to retire. There is no one on the horizon that I can imagine coming forward and making a credible run in his place.

Running for Congress is enormously expensive. Moore starts fund raising more than a year before each election, and he has a well-oiled campaign staff by now, a large group of very loyal supporters and donors. Where they will all go when Moore bows out is anyone's guess.

I have been known to call his office and express my displeasure at his various votes. I never know if it matters at all.

5. Simple question: would you prefer Chris Kobach?
This is Kansas, after all.

Don't expect someone as liberal as we are, they simply wouldn't win.

Just be glad you have someone with a "D" after their name, and not some arrogant neo-fascist jerkoff.
