Divorce is a sin, but murder is okay
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 10:36 AM by Mabus
Chalk it up as another case of Christian hypocrisy. The trial of the man accused of murdering his wife so he could pursue a more sexually adventurous lifestyle has begun in Lawrence, Kansas. Believe me, the Rev. Byrd (from Emporia, KS) could take some lessons from this guy.

Here's a synopsis: Apparently Marty wanted a much different lifestyle than his wife wanted so he used the internet to find new friends. He found several but settled on one in particular. Marty and his girlfriend rented a house in nearby Eudora, Kansas. Marty told his wife that he was going to the house in Eudora for bible study and would duck out at night. Actually his his bible studies consisted of "...kinky sex. There was bondage. There was spanking, and there were...pictures taken" according to the prosecutor Brandon Jones. Unfortunately, the only impediment to Marty's lifestyle was, of course, Martin's wife, Mary.

Retrieved from the family computer along with over 6,000 pornographic images is a letter from Marty to his mistress that says, When I am a single again, yours will be the first door I knock on, if you are still available. I still feel that God is going to work something out. I don't know when. I don't know how. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/jun/16/millertrial/?martin_miller_trial Apparently God's chosen method was for Marty to murder his wife.

One night, after Mary had gone to sleep, Marty booted up the computer and searched for the terms "deepest sleep patterns". Shortly after Marty went through his search results, he turned off the computer and, according to prosecutors, murdered his wife. Unfortunately for Marty, the kids heard mom's muffled screams and the words, "no," "please" and "don't."

Here's an excerpt of recent trial coverage taken from http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/jun/15/miller/?martin_miller_trial

In one photo, Martin K. Miller is smiling and wearing a suit and tie.

In another, he's reclining with his arms extended, wearing nothing but a blindfold and a pair of black leather shorts.

Prosecutors showed jurors the two images back-to-back Tuesday during opening statements of Miller's first-degree murder trial, to illustrate what they say was Miller's double life: one as a religious man involved in his church and his children's Christian school, the other as a sex addict and pornography connoisseur who wanted relationships with other women.

Who can say Kansas isn't a happening place? If this isn't "movie of the week" material I don't know what is.

3. Yeah, but
God was on his side. :dilemma:

Maybe Marty's counting on "the rapture" to happen before the verdict is in.

5. Woohoo
:woohoo:

A Lawrence murder! A fundie murder! Oh how I love a juicy scandal.

Is Tom Byrd still behind bars? He and this guy could be roomies in prison.

Or we could open up a fundie murderer prison.

10. What's with the boat and the lighthouse in this guy's
front yard? I was just watching some videos of news coverage and they showed the house and yard. The boat has a crucifix in it!

11. I'm sure it has a symbolic meaning for him, but I find the crucifix
a bit creepy. He's creative, but I just have difficulty saying anything complimentary about him! :P I was relieved by the guilty verdict.

16. He was inspired, I'm not kidding, by Long John Silver's
From a 1999 LJW article (http://www2.ljworld.com/news/1999/jul/11/garden_spot/)

The first couple of paragraphs can be summarized: after having people cut through his yard, Marty's solution was to erect a nautical-style fence.

Along the front and side of his large corner lot, horizontally sliced utility poles have been set into the ground at regular intervals. Thick rope ties them together. The look is similar to that seen at a shipyard.

"For one year I went through all kinds of design ideas," Miller said. The final layout was inspired after he pulled into Long John Silver's one day. "That's it," he told himself. "I can do that."

In 1993 he built a 12-foot tall lighthouse at the corner. The structure is a replica of a lighthouse from Maine. The pond and gardens surrounding it were put in during summer 1997.

Rest at link.

15. I heard that too.
He wanted to fuck around, and the only way he could do it is if he was single. But, divorce is a disgrace, right? The shame, the righteous indignation of the community, having to settle for custody of your children, having to divide up some money and the television, having to let folks know you were banging a woman from a neighboring town.

How much more lovely to be a widower? How heart-rending, how very sad, how horrible a situation to be visited on a family? Gosh, their mother ripped right from the family when their children are in their formative years?

He wanted to anticipate money, and freedom from a marriage, and lots of wonderful sex. And sympathy.

None for him. I hope their children are alright.

17. Quite right
He's done more damage to his children than a divorce would have. At least with a divorce the kids would still have their mother around. The whole situation is just sad.

The Miller house is a stone's throw from Lawrence High School which is the one the children will be attending if they stay at their current location. I feel so sorry for those kids. It sounds like they know right from wrong though.

18. Lesson: If you want out of a marriage, kill your spouse. That way, you
won't be sinning.

19. He did write his mistress a letter, saying he was confident "God
would find a way" for him to get out of his marriage. In his own twisted mind, maybe he thinks this was God's solution. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
