KC meetup group:
Here's an article from this week's Pitch about The Flea Market. Apparently it has been on the market for almost ten years. The owner has talked to Hooter's but they have made no decision yet.

1. Oh, goody.
Yep, I just love to buy water and eat crappy chicken wings and make some pretty young thing do back flips for a tip.

Yuck.

4. The only bad thing about Wednesday
was that I wasn't able to buy water and eat crappy chicken wings and make some pretty young thing do back flips for a tip.

5. Well you never asked
I would have gladly done back flips for a tip. I'll bet Mabus and Muse would have as well.

(Just call us the triple threat)

11. Hey I already got paid that night
I didn't need money that badly! Besides, I would kill myself trying something like that. Seriously, I never could do a back flip.

As for Hooters? I wish someone would burn them all down. Just kidding Agent Mike :hi:.

6. Hey Put
I don't think there's a female in our group that will step foot in a Hooter's.

And for all the excited men in our group, we will let them know how very red Hooter's is. :) :kick:

I have never stepped foot in one nor do I intend to. The whole concept is rather offensive to women, IMO.

10. My hubby has asked me several times to go
Last time we were in St. Louis. I told him sure, go on in, but give me your wallet and I will go shopping while you have lunch.

So he hasn't been in one yet. At least not while I am with him.

13. I've only been to one
and I've been to it multiple times but I never stayed. I had to pick-up to-go orders. It is located in OKC and it was the place that a group of Jayhawks gathered to watch basketball games. So, in my defense, I have been in one but I've never eaten in one. I also only go to the one that is Jayhawk-friendly.

18. When we were in New Orleans for the '03 Final Four
we were looking for a restaurant. Actually we were trying to figure out which one we wanted to patron. So many choices! While we were wandering up the street comparing menus we heard one of the door guys turning away would-be patrons. He was telling them they were booked for a private party. Naturally we started to just walk past the place when the door guy grabbed my husband's arm and asked, "Jayhawks?" to which hubby said "yes." He then proceeded to quietly tell us he had room for Jayhawk fans and ushered us into the place. He signaled the hostess and told us that the other fans were rude or poor tippers but they liked the Jayhawks. Sure enough, as we walked to our table we noticed we were surrounded by a sea of Jayhawk t-shirts. Our waiter told us that they felt Jayhawk fans were classy people and they (the staff) had adopted them as their favorite team. It was pretty cool.

BTW, the restauarant was called the "Star" or something like that. It was near Canal Street. We came upon it on our way back from using a couple of JFK books as our walking guides around New Orleans. We were just returning from the Federal courthouse which stands on the site of the infamous Guy Bannister/Lee Harvey Oswald shared building address (on, what we called, the other side of Canal Street). We had just passed a Ghost Tour joint where the guy gave us the "low down" on Clay Shaw, Guy Bannister, tht Ferris guy, Lee Harvey and the mob. This guy did not like Kennedy and we got an earful. I don't know how much of it was true and I really don't actually remember a lot of it. Anyway, the restaurant we ended up eating at was, according the guys who ran the B&B we stayed at, more of a local favorite.

My brother in the south Dallas area found a Jayhawk friendly bar. He went there to watch basketball games. An old friend of mine found one nearer to Irving found one near Los Colinas. The hubby said there was one out in Silicon Valley that he went to. That's no surprise considering KU's connection to Silicon Valley beginning (for me) with Lou Montulli.

Lou Montulli's Short Bio from (http://www.montulli.org/lou/)

* In 1991, while at The University of Kansas, I started writing a program that eventually became known as Lynx. (One of the first web browsers)
* While working on Lynx, I was heavily involved with the development of HTTP and HTML, and was responsible for innovations such as web proxying. That time period was one of most exciting and fast paced periods I can remember. Innovations that are completely ubiquitous now, were proposed and implemented in incredibly fast cycles. It wasn't until the later days at Netscape that we coined the term "Internet Time". I recently came across archived messages of the original WWW-Talk mailing list and found the thread that sparked the creation of forms on the web.
* In 1994 I moved to California to become one of the founding engineers at Mosaic Communications Corporation, which later changed it's name to Netscape.

19. The Ghost Tour!
Last time I was in NO we walked past that place and I really wanted to take that tour. I was certain it would be a large waste of money but it sounded fun. Next time I go that is one thing I am going to do unless someone tells me it is really bad and bogus. There have to be tons of good stories to tell and actually, I don't even care if they are real, it just sounded like fun.

Interesting post.

Don't miss it.

I love New Orleans. There is no party anywhere like the party on Bourbon Street every Saturday night.

24. I've been promised a return trip
I'm not holding my breath for any time soon but I will go back when I can spend some time there. I've got an old friend from law school who lives there. She's dropped out of the practice of law and now runs an independent film production company.

We went by the cemetery where Marie LaVeaux is buried on our way out of town but it was closed. We spent way too much time trying to find the house where MTV's "Real World" was filmed but it was their car and they did get us tickets.

Next time I go, the "Voodoo Museum" is on the itinerary. So is at least one ghost tour. Thanks for the tip.

26. My New Orleans must dos:
Cafe du Monde (beignettes!!!)
Tower Records - which is right down the street from
Margaritaville AND
Forrest Gump's (excellent shrimp)
Landry's (also close to Tower Records)
Tipitina's (where the Nevilles play when they are in town)
Rock n Bowl (I have never been there but have wanted to check it out for years)

One time, we drove down into the bayou south of New Orleans and saw the plantations. That was awesome. I highly recommend it. We met people speaking Cajun. And the food - OMG!!

We have also discovered that you can stay lots cheaper in Kennner or the burbs by the airport. NO is not very big and downtown is only about a 20 minute drive.

It is probably my favorite vacation spot. But don't go in July. Learned that one the hard way - I have NEVER been hotter in my life. :)

30. We always buy lots of voodoo dolls
and bring them home for souvenirs. What better gift from New Orleans?

We went last November and I won $500 gambling. Spent $300 at Tower Records :)

31. You are so funny.
You and your gambling! You do well my dear. I got killed the one time I did it. I spent 3 days in Vegas at a Nursing convention (like we went to any of the classes) and lost my shirt, shoes etc. Still, I had a great time.

32. I won $1700 in one month last year
and have been hooked ever since. Lots of teachers like to gamble. Occupational hazard I guess :) We are going to a Math conference in Hartford, CT in October. And Hartford happens to be 30 miles away from the world's largest casino!! (But we are good, we always go to ALL our classes, unlike you partying nurses.:) )

Our latest craze is horse racing. We went to Arkansas and paid for our vacation in one afternoon at the races. Then we missed winning $250,000 on the KY Derby by one horse!

It is fun - the fastest growing pastime in the USA. And I am smart enough to set limits so I have yet to lose the rent or starve my kids. (I usually just play penny slots). When we went to Topeka on Sat, I broke even. So it was like a free night out. And drinks are free. Plus casinos have great buffets. You ought to check out Prairie Band's buffet - it is wonderful. And that hotel is awesome.

33. LOL
I was able to catch up last night because our friend came by and took my husband to the casinos in KC. Our friend does pretty well on the slots. He usually walks out with more money than he went in with. My husband does better with on-line poker than he does at the actual tables.

22. I wanted to go on it
but my guy was hungry. We were also on a real limited budget. Going to NO was done on a lark. One of my brothers called Thursday morning, said he had tickets and asked if we wanted to go. We had to drive to OKC to meet up. We were in NO early Friday morning.

Next time you go I recommend the Royal Street Courtyard especially if Jon and Keith are still running it. http://www.bbonline.com/la/royalstreet/ It was little off the beaten path but seemed to be a safe neighborhood. The back courtyardIt was very private and just a few blocks from the Mississippi River. The hot tub was a real treat at the end of each day, especially when there was a breeze from the river. There was a little corner market about a block away where we picked up some cheap fruit to munch on while we strolled around. The morning spread was always primo: bagels, cereal, juices, waffles, fresh croisannts, fresh fruit, an array of spreads, it was really good. Whenever we left the place there were cops out patrolling the area on bicycles.

I guess you can tell I liked it there.

29. I eat myself
into a stupor when there. Last time we went to the Jazz Festival and our reservations were crappy but downtown. My son and I found this little dive of a place where we could get gyro omelettes. Then we would go to the festival, get a real gyro then an iced coffee from the stand of Cafe DuMonde and we just cruised from food place to concert tent then coffee place etc. Then a big dinner at some famous local place. I was surprised I could fit on the plane home.
