Sen. Roberts helped "sell" war on Iraq

Senate Intelligence chairman quietly 'fixed' intelligence, and diverted blame from White House over Iraq

Chairman Pat Roberts

In a sense, the pre-invasion of Iraq and the post-invasion intelligence blame game can be seen through the lens of a chess game, with the pieces in place well before any troops set foot on the ground.

Roberts appears to become an extension of the White House in selling the war beginning in January 2003. That month, he is appointed to chair the Senate Intelligence Committee, picking up one of the eight coveted clearances.

By the end of the month, Roberts is convinced that Saddam is harboring both al Qaeda and weapons of mass destruction. Much of what convinces Roberts is a series of briefings organized by then-Deputy National Security Advisor, Stephen Hadley. Hadley led a White House team to help sift through CIA intelligence, filtering information for Congressional briefings.

Roberts embraces a larger pro-war role. His voice is joined by Vice President Dick Cheney and then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.

I knew there was something about Sen. Roberts I didn't like!

1. And the more you learn about him, the more there is to not like!
We'll probably never know everything about his role in the war, and in various investigations that he has hamstrung. But I know enough to want him out of office.

2. I am so ashamed.
Is there no way we can recall him before 2008? I always thought of him as a partisan gopher, never thought he had such an active hand in the mess. All of his 9/11 "investigation" is even more suspect than before. He is a traitor.

What could he possibly have been promised. What could he possibly have agreed to. What would make someone put politics and lies above other peoples lives? We're supposed to genuflect to him now that he has won some measley highway dollars that we really needed 4 years ago. What did he have to do for that? I don't want to know.

He is nothing to me now.

Roberts is. His obstructions in the investigation is criminal.
His soul will rot in HELL.
I am glad to see that there some folks there they pay attention.

this just adds to my list of grievances. What an ass. Unfortunately this stuff doesn't get a lot of play.
