Kansas: laughing stock of the world, part 2
This was recently in The Onion:

"Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, 'God' if you will, is pushing them down," said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University."

This is known as "intelligent falling". Apparently to hell with Newton and Darwin both! After all Einstein proved that Newtonian physics did not work in the subatomic universe. A loophole proving that Newton was totally wrong! Let us update the physics curriculums in Kansas. There are no more rules of physics learn and apply. It is solely the will of God, which we cannot predict. Or perhaps the Flying Spaghetti Monster of my earlier post. Shall we turn off all the technology based on Newtonian physics? Yes, I know that it is satire, but it hurts because the satirical dateline for the story is Kansas City, Kansas.

Kansas used to be a progressive state, but something happened about 1870. It started producing nut cases, like John St. John of Olathe, who as governor took Kansas dry, the first state to go dry. Then the Prohibitionists ran him for President. He took enough votes from the Republican candidate (James G. Blane--I think)in New York to elect Cleveland, the only Democratic president between Buchanan and Wilson. I've been suspicious of Olathe ever since! Even though electing Cleveland was a good thing!
