Oh yeah, I ripped my sig line off from an Oklahoma website (http://www.newsok.com/article/1722204/?template=news/main) I was checking to see how close the fires were to my family in OKC. Although, I suppose I could call them.

23. I'm actually more concerned about my buddy in California
He's trapped in his house because of a mudslide. I'm on the phone with him right now. He just got back from throwing his housemate's medicine to him from the house. He put the medicine bottle in a PVC pipe, sealed the ends of the pipe, tied a rope to it (just in case) and threw it over the mudslide. He finally threw it far enough that his housemate could get to it. His electricity is up and down. Thankfully he's got enough food to hole up for about a week. He's hoping that the county will be able to clear the road to his house and he'll be able to get out.

As for the fires, it sounds like they are on the (north) east side of OKC. Most of my family lives in the northwest part of the city and so far I haven't seen any reports of fires near them. My brother didn't mention it when he called yesterday.

101. Is it reminicent of "five easy pieces" and a chicken salad sandwich?
Bobby: I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.
Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?
Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.
Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?
Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees.

But I have a 'meeting' with the boss Thurs morning and she wants to see my plans. She actually said that she is sure they are "perfect" and maybe I can help other teachers who are struggling to keep up with their planning.

I have always hated the paperwork. It made me a very bad sailor. But later on, I was a surprisingly good bookkeeper. And I majored in art, go figure.

3. LOL
You're not going to believe this but this morning when I woke up hubby came in and said "Bush is using Article II (war powers) as basis for his warrantless searches". As I digested this bit of information he went and got me a cup of coffee. When he returned I said, "I wonder what the reaction of DU'ers is" and then remembered there was a meeting soon. Thanks for the reminder. And thanks for not scheduling it on a KU basketball day. Lastly, thanks for picking what looks like a good venue.

I'm coming be there, come hell or high water, I will be there this Friday. I'll also try to bring reinforcements.

One question, what time?

I can get there by 4:00. Unless my kids want to come - then I will have to run by the house to pick them up. But that would put me up to 4:30. Then if Johnalita wants to come, that pushes my arrival to 5:00.

I will call to see if we can reserve that table.

32. Easy to find DIRECTIONS
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 04:03 PM by proud2Blib
Take the Rainbow exit off of I-35 (KU Med exit) and go south about a mile. At the second light, 39th St, (you will see KU med at this corner) take a left and go one block to State Line. Jazz is on your right - on the Missouri side. SE corner of 39 and State Line. Park south of restaurant - huge lot.

If you come in on I-70 from the west, take I-670 (it's a left lane right past 18th St in Kansas) and right after you cross the state line as you approach downtown, there is a right exit that says SW Trafficway. Take that and it swerves right on to I-35 South. Go to the Rainbow exit and go south (left at bottom of exit ramp).

From the north, take I-35 through downtown and get on SW Trafficway (they merge)

From the east, I-70 through downtown to the Trafficway.

If you are allergic to Kansas and can't stand driving even a mile into the Sunflower state, follow evlbstrd's directions below.

Unless they're sideshow freaks. Maybe they could milk a billy goat, but I don't think I'd want to see that.

171. I don't know about that
I started watching old episodes of "Carnivale" last night (FSM I loved that show) and there are few carnies that aren't that bright.

However, I do think that the twins could qualify as sideshow freaks. It's in their genes. I know the rest of their family could, at the very least the whole family is in the running for "Zippy the Pinhead" awards.

203. Okay, here's what's happened so far
The husband was late getting home but it turned out to be for the better. My brother and my nephew pulled up in the drive way around 6. They were on the way to the KC area to stay with one of their friends that they are going to the Kentucky game with tomorrow. To make a long story short, he was just outside of Lawrence when his car started overheating so he stopped here instead. He pulled up in the driveway and we looked at the car. We found out that one of his belts broke and it caused the car to overheat. Hopefully that's all the damage there is. We're hoping that there's no damage to the engine. We spent about an hour trying to find a mechanic to fix the car this weekend because my nephew (a high school junior) needs to be back in school Monday morning. We think we found someone who can work on the car tomorrow afternoon. The bitch of it is is that one of us is going to have to give up our ticket for tomorrow's game in exchange for fixing the car. :grr:

As it turns out my brother wasn't just making calls about his car. At some point (between calls tracking down a mechanic) my brother called the friend that he was going to stay with this weekend and my two brothers who live in Lenexa. His friend ended up driving to Lawrence to see if he could help out with the car and it looks like he's going to stay here tonight too. My two brothers are driving in tomorrow morning and are planning to stay here tomorrow night. All I know is that I have a testosterone laden house and I have just spend most of the past hour changing sheets and getting the spare bedrooms ready. I also got things arranged in the kitchen to make breakfast for the entire gang in the morning.

Oh yeah, at some point in the evening my husband finally got home and was more than a little surprised to find a houseful of people. He was a little put off at first but then he found out that my brother's friend is a former KU basketball player who played on the 1988 National Championship KU basketball team. We like to call him "one of the Miracles" (as in "Danny and the Miracles"). Anyway we've been sitting around talking most of the evening. We finally got out around 9 o'clock and ate downtown. We got home around 10 and then we had to walk the dogs. While we were out walking the dogs the new puppy (she's 60-65 pounds) spotted a cat and took off after it. I was holding her leash and she dragged me down the block. If it hadn't been for the tree that I got slammed into by the puppy (and that her leash got wrapped around while she was chasing the cat) I might have gotten pulled into street. The only damage is a pair of broken glasses (snapped in half at the bridge) and a bruised ego. (It's funny now, two hours ago I was scared/pissed).

Right now I'm tired and sore. My husband went to go take his shoes off half an hour ago and fell asleep. My nephew, who has figured out how to work the "on demand" options, is out in the living room watching TV. The nephew has promised not to order any porn. My brother and his friend left around 11 to go bar hopping downtown. I expect them back when the bars close.

I swear I will get to the next get together.
