5. Wichita?
Wichita is in the top ten Best Big Cities?

First off, it's not all that big -- 354,900 people. I'd have thought that to be a middle-sized city. Shrug.

I wonder what in the world the criteria are. Maybe being politically right-wing is an asset? Colorado Springs, Mesa, Raleigh, San Diego, Wichita. Not exactly bastions of liberal thought.

Wichita is one of those cities you could not pay me to live in.

And as a resident of Overland Park, I'm thinking that if this city is showing up on best places to live lists, it must be time to move.

We do have good schools here. And decent parks. And a great junior college -- one of the best in the country. But it is very Republican. sigh.
