I know they're just going to put another wingnut in her place, but still--good riddance! From the
Kansas City Star:
Kay O’Connor to resign from Kansas Senate
Kay O'Connor, one of the forerunners of the Republican Party's conservative thrust in Kansas, said Wednesday she will resign from the state Senate, probably in late October.
The unexpected announcement, made in an e-mail to supporters and announced on KCTE Radio, comes at the midpoint of her second Senate term and just seven weeks after her lopsided defeat in the GOP primary for secretary of state.
. . .
O'Connor and controversy were constant companions during her time in public office. A front-line foe of abortion and a proponent of school vouchers--she called herself "the voucher lady" and toured the state promoting the cause--O'Connor often said she took pride in standing firm for her beliefs and not shading her positions.
. . .
Perhaps the hottest issue to embroil O'Connor came in September 2001 when The Kansas City Star reported on a conversation in which O'Connor said she did not support the 19th Amendment, which guarantees women the right to vote, and would vote against it if it were being considered today.
She denies that she doesn't support the 19th Amendment in the
full story. The truth of the matter is unclear from this article, but I remember hearing about that.
