"New Age Imperialist" by the Bopaphonics #96 on Neil Young's LWW site
the Bopaphonics is a local Lawrence band that my friend Roger Holden is in. Their song New Age Imperialist was recently submitted to Neil Young's Living With War website. Last week it debuted at #681 and when I check this morning it was #96. Please give them a listen. Go to http://www.neilyoung.com/lwwtoday/lwwsongspage.html and scroll down to #96.

According to their website, the Bopaphonics are

Part rock rhythm meets odd rhythm, part political lyric meets tongue in cheek cynic, The
Bopaphonics are a spoken word and rhythm band that defies easy categorization.
Though they have been compared to the performance art of the Tubes, the humor of
Frank Zappa, the dissonance of James Blood Ulmer, the grit of Tom Waits, the quirkiness
of Talking Heads, the politrock of the Clash and the funky rhythms of Gorillaz & Soul
Coughing, they are not quite like any of them. So please ignore the cookie cutter genres
used to label the Bops & decide who they are for yourself. Sample the band that makes
literate political music you can dance to, laugh at or put side by side on pop radio & indie
left of the dial stations.

the Bopaphonics

Thanks. :hi:

A nice buzz enhances a good song.
Yeah, still working on the damn house. Nearly done, though. Where have we heard that before?

11. Sucks, doesn't it?
We work our asses off and think, "Almost done. One more weekend and I can relax for the winter." Then another weekend and it's the same thing. Just one more weekend. Now I think I'm down to one more day.
Then there's the diswasher I can't run because I can't find the right parts to hook up the hot water. Crap.

12. There's one difference
I've never gotten to the "Almost done. One more weekend and I can relax for the winter" stage yet. I live in the house from hell where something else is always going wrong. A couple of years ago, I fixed a huge hole in the ceiling (left by the contractor that was hired to fix up the house :eyes: ) only to have the shower go wacky. The handles fell off and water started shooting out across the tub. We had to turn the water off and do repairs. Once that got fixed, the shower walls, which were apparently weakened by the blast of water, started falling apart. We fixed them up only to have the recently replaced shower fixtures fall apart after six months or so. We went back and bought higher quality fixtures (with a good guarantee) and replaced them again. This meant we had to tear out the wall again. I'm half afraid to fix it again for fear I'll just have to tear it out again.

A couple of weeks ago an upstairs window fell out. Actually it fell in and on to a stack of blankets, so thankfully the glass didn't break. Before I put it permanently back in place but I'm going to need to replace the trim, reglaze it and add new weather stripping. Unfortunately I also have to work, cook, clean, shop, walk dogs, make phone calls, etc. It's not so much that I am fixing the house as much as it is that I'm trying to keep it together.

13. Keeping it together is all we can really do.
Unless we're lucky enough to get picked for This Old House.
Last night, the new toilet I installed last winter decided to dump water through the floor into a first floor closet that is already damaged from the old leaky toilet. Glad I hadn't gotten around to repairing that damage yet. And as I went around the house painting, I found that I need an awful lot of new storm windows I've already replaced eight, and that was just the kitchen.

14. Isn't that the truth
LOL, our toilet started leaking a while back and I wasn't sure what size wax ring to get. We only have one bathroom and I didn't want to remove the toilet only to find out I needed some special-size ring that I'd have to order, so I ended up buying every ring in sight. If you lived closer I could give you a good price on one.

It was the gasket between the tank and bowl that was the problem.

and I didn't write it down. Besides, shortly after I talked to her another friend of mine called and told me she was getting laid off in two weeks and was in crisis.

So many things to remember, so few brain cells left.

on edit: those muscle relaxers I took for my back aren't helping either.

Bear is too old and arthritic to get up on the bed, and Gup is too small to provide any warmth. But she does snore very loudly.

40. Party starts at 6:30.
It would really be closer for you guys to go to Toto's first. Take K-10 to I-35 and take the Johnson Drive exit. Go east on Johnson Drive one mile. (I believe that is a left turn off of the exit ramp onto Johnson Drive). Toto's is on your right - just past SM North High School and right next door to Don Chilito's. If you get to the light at Broadmoor you have just passed Toto's. Piece of cake.

I live close by but it really is easier to go to Toto's than to my house.

Has he considered submitting a song or two to Neil Young's website? He should definitely think about it.
