Mabus is a damn good cook!

I celebrated Turkey day with her, the Admiral and two very nice friends of theirs.
Have to say it was the best Thanksgiving I've had in a long time.
And Mabus, I hope you're not mad your cooking talents were outed. Somebody was bound to do it sooner or later...;)

And I told Evl to come bring me pie and he didn't.

It's a depressing holiday. Hubby's truck was totaled 2 weeks ago so he is moping around while looking for a cheap replacement. Youngest kid is moving out so he is packing. Oldest is his usual ESPN self. Only the dog seems to appreciate me.

As soon as my room is ready at your palace, I am moving in. Now that I know you're a good cook, I am even more motivated.

and she brought two! And she brought whip cream! It's a different world here in Lawrence. People actually do things you ask them and then go further. :rofl:

I thought about inviting you (and evl and anyone else who wanted to come) over but I figured that you'd want to spend the day with your family.

You probably wouldn't have like it around here anyway. We started our feasting around noonish and the last guest stayed until about 8 p.m. By the time the last person left, we had consumed most of a bottle of rum and the place looked like a bar at closing time. The smoke was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. Tsuanmi boy was here. He just got back from Thailand and had a bunch of pictures of post-tsunami Thailand. Classic and our friend Roger talked up a storm about, what else, classic films. Roger shared some of his music with us. Overall it was a very mellow day.

You can come stay with us anytime. We've got a spare room. Of course, right now we use it as the room to store crap we don't want to deal with but we do keep a small path to the bed open.

In the meantime, we do have leftovers and you are always welcome to drop by.

Don't forget, Dec. 9 at the Hollow.

12. Next year, y'all are invited to our house

I usually cook at 20-25 pound turkey. What can I say? I came from a large family. I don't know how to cook small holiday dinners. I always over do it. That's why I invite people over.

I just thought you'd guys think I was a real loser if I was begging people to (please, please, oh please) eat with us. Hell, if you get bored with your families on Christmas or New Year's Day, come on over. You know how to get here. The only thing is, if there's a KU game on, I may not get around to acknowledging your presence until the first commercial break. Otherwise, you know where the kitchen is. And, if you give me enough warning, I'll plug in the extra fridge on the back porch so we'll have a beer fridge. We've got a spare bed (you'll have to crawl over junk) or you can sleep in the living room. Just keep a couple of things in mind, the dogs live here all year 'round but you're just visiting and bring your own pillows.

We still have half of it left, along with a huge pan of dressing and an equal amount of green bean casserole.
Between the next party in the valley and your place for New Year's, sounds like a couple of plans.

14. I gave away some leftovers

Yesterday the Admiral got my version of Eggs Benedict. A couple of soft dinner rolls (cut in half) topped with 1/2" of thin-sliced turkey, bacon, a tomato, two sunnyside up eggs and covered with fresh hollandaise sauce with a side of blueberries. I like to cook. It's a sickness. But, at least, I try to make leftovers fun. And I have never once made turkey and dumplings. I refuse to.

Although, the thing the Admiral is grooving on now is a crockpot full of lumpfree, homemade gravy. I could never make enough gravy to make him happy in the past, so, this year I made a whole crockpot full of gravy. He's like a kid in the candy store. Everything has gravy on it. Hashbrowns, gravy. Turkey, gravy. Roll, gravy. I half suspect he's putting gravy on his pie and chocolates. All I know is, he disappears into the kitchen and I hear "mmmmmmmmm, gravy," like he's Homer Simpson or something.

If you fuck that up, you're done for. Anything else can be forgiven.
Also, I will be at your house next Thanksgiving, like it or not. Anything to make you miserable.

The Admiral feels the same way. There are only four things I have to make for Thanksgiving: turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. Anything else is extra. He's already had a couple hot turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes today. His only suggestion to me is to find deep plates for next year so he doesn't have to worry about spillage. If you're coming next year, I'll make sure to find some.

You being here will get double karma points. So there. :P

An old Indian woman taught me the secrets of cooking a good turkey. It was easy to convince her to teach me since she was my mom.
