Rep. Ed O’Malley will leave Kansas Legislature

Kansas Rep. Ed O’Malley of Roeland Park will resign his seat and move to Wichita to lead a new non-profit organization.

O’Malley will be the first president and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center, opening in January. Its aim is to convene statewide leaders to address health and wellness issues and train them to help their respective communities and organizations.

O’Malley, 31, a Republican, has represented the 24th District since 2003. He was elected to another term in November.

In the legislature, O’Malley said, he’s worked hard to make Kansas a better place and hopes his new position will allow him to continue the effort on a broader scale.

Ed beat an awesome Dem candidate. Too bad the governor doesn't appoint his replacement. Damn!!

1. Ed was endorsed by the Kansas Equality Coalition.
I know the GLBT caucus endorsed Sandler (I think that was who the Dem was). I think in both cases we had a friend and supporter but since we are non partisan we went with the friendly incumbent rule.

2. And once again
the Republicans will get to appoint the new rep, who will then be an unelected incumbent two years from now. And as an unelected incumbent he'll get all those "friendly incumbent" endorsements.

It's quite astonishing how, at least here in Johnson County, so many Republicans leave office mid-term like this.
