Nice article in The Star about some of us who went to DC
Johnson Countians join Capitol anti-war march Johnson Countians join anti-war march in Washington

Participants, stunned by the size of the crowd, are swept up in the excitement.

By JENNIFER BHARGAVA
The Kansas City Star

Tens of thousands of people marched around the nation’s Capitol last weekend.

Lost in the crowd were several Johnson County residents, who hoped their message would make a difference.

1. Way to go!
I am so proud of all of you. I feel honored to know you. Thank you for taking the time away from your jobs, your families and your life to make the journey. Everyday people, speaking out and making a difference. It gives me hope, it really does.

I know your stories probably won't make it to DU's "Greatest Page" but you've made it on mine - permanently. :patriot:

19. Where are you?
I'm in Lawrence. You're always welcome to drop by for a visit. Lord knows, everyone else does (I'm talking to you Proud ;)) We're a pretty lively group. If you look through the K-Zone you'll notice that we have a tendency to hijack each other's threads and joke with one another. We're mostly old, yet very juvenile, hippies. We usually sit in the back of rooms together, make snide remarks and crack each other up. We can't help it. Although, watch out, when we get in our serious mode we're world beaters.

If you're nearby (and willing) one of our favorite DU Associates, Rex (he's pretty much a luddite. He calls and I go through the stories on the Greatest Page with him over the phone. Some day he'll learn to surf the internet and find DU on his own. :eyes:), is having one of Burton Hollow parties in about a month. It's a "Lawrence party situation," i.e. we have a potluck with a bonfire, drink lots of beer and talk politics. Oh yeah, and we smoke. A lot. It starts around 6 -7 p.m. and lasts until the everyone leaves (sometimes we hang out until breakfast). You can bring tents and sleeping bags or you can sleep on one of Rex's many couches. Oh yeah, kids are welcome to run around the Hollow and scream to their heart's content because we're out of town in the county. We've had as few as four or five people and we've had crowds numbering over a hundred. You never know who's going to show up. Believe me, you'll fit right in.

So, welcome to Kansas. We'll introduce you to the bluer portions of the heartland. Just one thing, don't tell everyone or there'll be a land rush.

I'm still in Florida, but hanging with the Kansas Group. Met them all in DC and had such a blast. I wish I was closer, what a great group.

And I heard the nicest things about you.

Thank you for the most warm welcome and when I come that way, I will be sure to come calling. Thanks Mabus.

23. Oh
See what happens when they (proud, evl and Big Unit) try to roust me from my weekend fog? Well, you're more than welcome to drop in here anytime and say whatever's on your mind. You're also free to hijack threads and like the others do (I've never, ever hijacked a thread in my life :P). If you ever make it here in person, I personally guarantee that you'll have a blast.

Oh yeah, don't believe everything you've heard. Although, I will say, I'm a lot nicer than evl, proud or kiteinthewind.

I logged in (at someone's insistence) but I continued flipping channels around watching different basketball games. I think my contribution was basically limited to suggesting we talk about hairstyles of the '70's when someone asked for topics. No bit so I logged out shortly after you and proud did.

Hell yeah, I am going to hang around here in the Kansas Forums. What a great bunch of people you all are.
