Kansas Democrats to host President Bill Clinton
Headlines | Party News
Former President Bill Clinton will travel to Topeka next month to deliver the keynote address at the Kansas Democratic Party’s annual Washington Days celebration.
Clinton will speak at a ticketed event the evening of Friday, March 2, 2007. The time of the speech will be announced later this month.
“It’s an incredible honor to have President Clinton celebrate Washington Days with us this year,” said Kansas Democratic Party Chairman Larry Gates. “His presidency brought prosperity and hope to Americans, and his global charitable efforts are helping countless people around the world.”
The first Democratic president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win a second term, Clinton’s two terms saw the lowest unemployment rate in recent times, the lowest inflation rate in 30 years, the highest home ownership rate in American history, lower crime rates throughout the country, and fewer Americans on welfare.
President Clinton forged bipartisan support for his policies that addressed the federal budget deficit, helped improve public schools, protected the jobs of parents caring for children stricken by illness, and strengthened environmental standards.
“I’m delighted he is accepting our invitation, and I know everyone is looking forward to hearing his message of hope and optimism during a time when our nation is facing some serious challenges at home and abroad,” said Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
Recent Washington Days speakers have included Senator Barack Obama, retired General Wesley Clark and Senator John Edwards.
“We anticipate a lot of interest in this event and want to ensure that as many Kansas Democrats as possible have an opportunity to participate,” Gates said.
Tickets will not be available for purchase until Wednesday, February 14.
